Description
Visit the Wieliczka salt mine on this 5-hour guided tour, which is accessible for wheelchair users and limited to just six people. The mine, which has been operating for at least 700 years, is a UNESCO World Heritage site and has a labyrinth of tunnels, pits, and chambers, all hewn by hand from solid salt. Admire beautifully adorned chapels and underground lakes, all located 210 to 443 feet (64 to 135 meters) below the ground.
You will be picked up at your centrally located Krakow hotel and settle in to the specially adapted, air-conditioned minivan for the 30-minute drive to the Wieliczka salt mine. Upon arrival, begin your 2.5-hour wander through the network of underground tunnels and labyrinths. There are about 360 steps down to the mine but there is also a lift available for customers with disabilities, upon prior notification.
While exploring the mine, your guide tells you all about local history and legends, as well as many interesting facts about the mine, which has a specific micro climate. Due to the high iodine content it can be helpful in the treatment of respiratory problems.
Your tour concludes with drop-off back in central Krakow.
