Shipping Minister Fotis Kouvelis signed the circular concerning the accessibility of persons with disabilities when traveling by ferry. According to the paper, as of May 1, 2019, passenger ships should have on board a specially designed area for passengers with special needs, including a designated space for wheelchair users, and the appropriate equipment for the accessibility of the disabled in ships (suitable ramps, lifts). Special signs for the disabled in public areas should be used. There is another important prescription: a special system for the transmission of announcements for persons with disabilities should be installed, and crew members should be appropriately trained to assist passengers with special needs.
