The Acropolis of Athens - a monument of ancient architecture and one of the most famous sights of Greece, will become more accessible for tourists with disabilities. According to the Ministry of Culture of the country, the Central Archaeological Council of Greece approved the installation of a new lift for disabled visitors to the Acropolis.

The innovation was necessary: the previous lift for visitors with wheelchairs, low-mobility tourists and parents with infants was installed for the XXVIII Summer Olympic Games in 2004 in Athens and has worked for 15 years. In addition to the frequent disruptions to the lift that took place this summer, there were restrictions on lifting heavy wheelchairs. The new modern and functional lift will have two entrances leading directly to the monumental sights of the ancient city. The new lift will start working in the spring of 2020.

As previously suggested by the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Greece, modernization will affect the road leading from the lift to the entrance to the Acropolis - it will be made more convenient for visitors with electric wheelchairs.
